New cancer institute brings advanced diagnostics, radiation therapy and multidisciplinary treatment under one roof; nearly 100 cancer cases estimated every day in Chhattisgarh
Raipur, August 16: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday inaugurated the CARE Cancer Institute at Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals, Raipur, expanding access to advanced and comprehensive cancer treatment in the state.
The new institute has been developed as an integrated cancer-care centre offering services ranging from diagnosis and treatment planning to surgery, medical oncology, radiation therapy, bone marrow transplantation, nuclear medicine, supportive care and palliative care.
The launch assumes significance amid a growing cancer burden in Chhattisgarh. According to estimates cited by the hospital, the state recorded around 31,553 cancer cases in 2025, compared with 30,763 cases in 2024 — equivalent to nearly 100 new cases a day.
Advanced cancer treatment closer to home
The institute is equipped with day-care chemotherapy beds, a Versa HD Linear Accelerator for precision radiation therapy, an AI-enabled PET-CT system, dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant suites and a Tumour Board room.
A multidisciplinary team comprising specialists in Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Nuclear Medicine and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery will provide coordinated treatment based on individual patient needs.
The facility is also supported by the broader medical, surgical and critical-care infrastructure of Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said cancer was an increasing health challenge and stressed the importance of making specialised treatment available closer to patients.
“Advanced facilities such as the CARE Cancer Institute will further strengthen cancer care in Chhattisgarh by providing specialised diagnosis and treatment closer to people’s homes, reducing the need for patients and their families to travel long distances for care,” the Chief Minister said.
The inauguration was attended by Raman Singh, Speaker and former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh ; Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education; and senior hospital leadership.
Raman Singh said the addition of advanced cancer-care facilities in Raipur represented another important step in strengthening Chhattisgarh’s healthcare infrastructure.
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal highlighted the importance of early detection and timely treatment, saying specialised facilities would complement the state government’s efforts to improve cancer awareness, screening, diagnosis and treatment.
Building Raipur as a cancer-care hub
Dr Pawan Kumar, CEO – India II, Aster DM Quality Care Limited, said the institute combines advanced technology with multidisciplinary clinical expertise and builds on Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals’ 36-year healthcare legacy in Chhattisgarh.
“Our focus is to make high-quality specialised healthcare accessible closer to the communities we serve,” he said, adding that the institute aims to provide seamless care throughout a patient’s cancer journey.
Dr Sandeep Dave, Medical & Managing Director, Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals, said early detection combined with timely treatment can significantly improve cancer outcomes.
He said the institute would focus not only on advanced cancer treatment but also on promoting screening and early diagnosis across Chhattisgarh.
The new facility is expected to benefit patients from Chhattisgarh and neighbouring regions who currently travel to larger metropolitan cities for specialised cancer treatment, often involving multiple visits over several months.
With the launch, Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals aims to further establish Raipur as a major centre for comprehensive cancer care in Central India, while improving access to advanced oncology services closer to patients’ homes.
