New unit to provide round-the-clock care for patients with severe infections, respiratory failure, cardiac emergencies, sepsis and multi-organ complications
Hyderabad, August 3: CARE Hospitals has opened an Advanced Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at its Malakpet facility, expanding critical care capacity for patients with complex and life-threatening medical conditions.
The new unit was inaugurated by Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala. Dr. Pawan Kumar, CEO–India II, Aster DM Quality Care Limited; Rajeev Shourey, Head–Quality and Patient Safety; Nilesh Gupta, Regional CEO; Praveen Kumar Edla, COO, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet; Azampura Corporator Shaik Mohinuddin Abrar; Dr. Sridhar, Medical Superintendent; and Dr. Vajrapu Rajendra, Senior Consultant and Head of Critical Care, were among those present.
The MICU has been established amid a growing requirement for advanced treatment of severe infections, respiratory illnesses, cardiac emergencies, sepsis and multi-organ failure. It will provide round-the-clock intensive care, rapid medical intervention and continuous monitoring for critically ill patients.

According to the hospital, the unit is equipped with advanced patient-monitoring systems, modern life-support technologies and updated critical care infrastructure. Patient care will be delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising intensivists, specialist physicians, critical care nurses and other trained healthcare professionals.
Speaking at the inauguration, Balala said that access to advanced critical care closer to residential communities could make a life-saving difference during medical emergencies. He said the new facility would help strengthen emergency and critical care services in Malakpet and surrounding areas.
Dr. Pawan Kumar said the MICU was part of the organisation’s continued investment in clinical infrastructure, technology and specialised care.
“As healthcare requirements evolve, we will remain focused on expanding advanced infrastructure and making high-quality healthcare more accessible to the communities we serve,” he said.
Praveen Kumar Edla said the upgraded facility would enhance the hospital’s ability to provide timely and coordinated treatment to patients facing complex medical emergencies.
Highlighting the importance of rapid response, Dr. Vajrapu Rajendra said critical care often involved a race against time. Faster clinical decision-making, evidence-based protocols and coordination among different medical specialties were essential to improving patient outcomes, he added.
The hospital said the new unit forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen critical care capabilities across its network through investments in infrastructure, medical technology and specialised clinical teams.
