Ramkrishna CARE Cancer Institute Starts Advanced Radiation Oncology Services in Raipur

New facility brings precision radiation therapies, including IGRT, IMRT, SRS and SBRT, to cancer patients in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, September 4, 2026: Cancer patients in Chhattisgarh will now have greater access to advanced radiation treatment closer to home, with Ramkrishna CARE Cancer Institute commencing Radiation Oncology services in Raipur.

The new facility strengthens the Institute’s comprehensive cancer-care programme by bringing Radiation Oncology together with Surgical Oncology and Medical Oncology, supported by advanced diagnostics, chemotherapy, Bone Marrow Transplant facilities and multidisciplinary treatment planning under one roof.

The development is particularly significant for patients who require radiation therapy over multiple sessions, often spread across several weeks. Access to such treatment within the state can help reduce the need for patients and families to repeatedly travel to other cities for specialised cancer care.

AI-enabled LINAC for precision radiation treatment

At the centre of the new Radiation Oncology facility is an advanced Versa HD Linear Accelerator (LINAC), equipped with AI-enabled capabilities. According to the hospital, it is the first LINAC of its kind in Central India with AI-enabled intelligence.

The system supports advanced radiation techniques including Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).

These technologies allow oncologists to deliver radiation more precisely to tumours while limiting radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues as far as possible.

The Versa HD platform is designed to provide submillimetre accuracy for stereotactic procedures, which can be particularly useful in treating small, complex or difficult-to-reach tumours.

The facility also offers 2D, 3D and 4D imaging capabilities and supports 4D Image-Guided Radiotherapy to account for tumour movement during treatment.

An Active Breathing Coordinator (ABC) system enables clinicians to manage tumour movement associated with breathing and supports techniques such as Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH), which can help reduce radiation exposure to the heart during treatment of selected left-sided breast cancers. The technology can also support precision treatment of moving tumours in organs such as the lungs, liver and pancreas.

High-resolution beam-shaping technology further allows radiation to be closely adapted to the treatment target. The system can treat very small as well as multiple stereotactic targets and is backed by integrated quality-assurance processes for treatment planning, dosimetry and machine performance.

Comprehensive cancer treatment within Chhattisgarh

The commencement of Radiation Oncology adds another major component to Ramkrishna CARE Cancer Institute’s oncology infrastructure.

The Institute now brings together Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Medical Oncology, along with an AI-enabled PET-CT, dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant suites, Day-Care Chemotherapy and a dedicated Tumour Board.

The multidisciplinary model allows specialists from different oncology disciplines to jointly review cases and develop individualised treatment plans based on the type and stage of cancer and the patient's clinical condition.

Radiation Oncology programme led by Dr Gourav Gupta

The Radiation Oncology programme is headed by Dr. Gourav Gupta, Senior Consultant & Head – Radiation Oncology, Ramkrishna CARE Hospital, Raipur, who has more than 16 years of experience in cancer care.

His areas of expertise include precision radiotherapy, brachytherapy and advanced radiation techniques such as IGRT, IMRT, SRS, SRT and SBRT.

“Modern radiation oncology is increasingly about precision — delivering the required radiation dose accurately to the tumour while protecting surrounding healthy tissues as much as possible,” Dr. Gupta said.

“Advanced imaging and techniques such as IGRT, SRS and SBRT allow us to treat even small, complex and moving tumours with a high degree of accuracy. Every treatment plan is individualised and developed through a Tumour Board approach in coordination with our surgical and medical oncology teams,” he added.
